BUILDING TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP SKILLS
Strategically creating the future of God’s Church.
In our changing contexts, I do not believe it is enough for Christian leaders to maintain existing ministries. The Spirit is still active in the world and I believe that the church must leave the building. I believe that new faithful and fresh expressions of the church can be cultivated out in the community. I have been exploring this with my current group of confirmands. This is an example from a recent confirmation and mentor outing to a local restaurant that was featured on our church Facebook page. The confirmands, their mentors and pastor Kaity enjoyed a wonderful brunch Convivium Urban Farmstead after worship! Convivium is a local business that uses food to foster connection to the community and the environment. They provide free meals as well as education about healthy food choices to individuals struggling with food access.
Witnessing in the public square to God’s redeeming power.
Given the fact that our sanctuary has been under construction for ~1.5 years, we have had several opportunities to have worship services in public parks or in our parking lot. We have also had pet blessing at the farmers market and our congregation was a sponsor of the pride picnic last year and will be again this coming summer.
Encouraging leadership development of self and others through continuing education and lifelong learning.
In the Fall of 2023 I completed my field work for the course "Interim Ministry Networks Fundamentals of Transitional Ministry" Part One: The Work of the Leader and Part Two: The Work of the Congregation. I chose to take this course as the congregation I am currently serving is in a time of transition as they determine who their next pastor will be and are currently a church in exile as their church building in undergoing repairs.
